Profile
Professor Victor Chong was the Head of Department of Oxford Eye Hospital, a part of the Oxford University Hospitals and Co-Director of Ophthalmic Education at the University of Oxford. He graduated from the University of Glasgow Medical School with the Neil Arnott Prize, ophthalmic trained in Moorfields Eye Hospital, London and retinal fellowship trained in the Institute of Ophthalmology and Moorfields Eye Hospital, London and in the Centre of Macular Degeneration, University of Iowa, USA.
His team was the first to describe systemic complement activation in patients with age-related macular degeneration. He is the world-leading expert in Micropulse non-scarring retinal laser. He was currently the co-chair of the UK Medical Retina Group, co-chair of the UK Amsler Club, member of the Scientific Committee and Research Committee of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and EURETINA respectively.
He was the Associated Editor of Eye, the official journal of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, and sits in the Editorial Board of Ophthalmologica, Vision, and World Journal of Ophthalmology. He has published over 150 publications with 3 books and 18 book chapters, including the European Treatment Guideline on age-related macular degeneration. His main research interests are biomarkers of macular diseases, micropulse laser treatment, diabetic retinopathy progression, drusen removal by laser and retinal imaging.
