Dr Sarit Lesnik Oberstein studied at the medical school at the University of Leiden in the Netherlands. She graduated with distinction in 1992 and arrived in the UK in 1993 to begin her ophthalmology training in Canterbury, Greenwich and St Thomas’ hospital as an SHO.

Profile
After getting the Fellowship of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in 1996 Dr Lesnik Oberstein did her full surgical training at Moorfields Eye Hospital, including a fellowship in medical retina and fellowships in surgical retina at the Western eye Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital.
After being registered on the specialist register for medical and surgical retina, Dr Lesnik Oberstein moved back to the Netherlands to become a consultant ophthalmologist in one of the large teaching hospitals in Amsterdam, The Academic Medical Center. Specialising in diabetic retinopathy and surgery of the retina, Dr Lesnik Oberstein was the senior surgical consultant for 13 years before moving back to London.
Dr Lesnik Oberstein has an active career in research, completing her PhD in retinal plasticity in 2006.
She has extensive experience in complex cataract surgery, diabetic retinopathy and all forms of surgery of the retina including floater surgery, retinal detachment, macular pucker and macular hole surgery.
